Where did I get the plant from:
I got it from Dronninglund plantecenter in 1997 (165 DKK!!).

Short description:
Plant: acaulescent with several small to medium sized rosettes, forming short rhizomes. Leaves: Dark green widely and brightly edged in golden yellow, they have a short brown sharp spine at the tip of the leaves, 45 cm long and 2,5 cm wide around the middle of the leaves. They are smooth, narrower than the leaves of both Yucca filamentosa and Yucca Yucca flaccida!

Inflorescence: pubescent, 85 cm high with few short branches up to 7 cm long,  Flowers:  The flowers are like those of  the "normal" bluish-green forms of Yucca filamentosa, but more open like those of the hybrid Yucca 'Elegantissima' (they looks like stars). The fruits are purple, has a pubescent surface, 17-21 mm thick and 38-45 mm long, and has a rounded (convex) back, as those of Yucca filamentosa but as they mature they tend to look more like those of Yucca flaccida, but they are not constricted! The seeds is not know at the time of writing (August 2003)! But I have cross pollinated flowering plants in July 2003 with pollen from both Yucca glauca (BMJ #1461) and Yucca filamentosa (BMJ #1465B), and will know how the seeds look when the fruits are mature.

Where do I grow the plant:
I grow two different raised well drained beds, and I have "backup plants" in pots that are grown in an unheated frame which is protected against winter moisture. But I will try it in "normal" garden soil, when I start to propagate it.

Hardiness:
I would not rate this variegated form of Yucca as 100% hardy, but if planted in a sheltered place it will do OK.
It flowered for the first time in 1998. In the summer of 1999 I planted a cutting in the garden, and it has survived our wet and cold winters down to - 17C since then. The plant does not grow big, but big enough to bloom in July 2003.

Notes:
I'm not really sure which species Yucca 'bright Edge' is? It's known with the names: Yucca filamentosa 'Bright Edge', Yucca flaccida 'Bright Edge', Yucca smalliana 'Bright Edge', Yucca flaccida var. smalliana 'Bright Edge' and Yucca filamentosa var. smalliana 'Bright Edge'. The name that I think is most correct may be Yucca filamentosa ssp. smalliana 'Bright Edge'! The reason to this is the short branches on the inflorescence and the shape of the young fruit.

And it's selffertile Yucca 'Bright Edge' x 'Bright Edge'. Made by Steen Stjerne, Samsø, Denmark in 2010. The seedlings will of course be green and without any variegation.

This makes it the most popular Yucca clone used in hybrids as it has been used by 8 different hybridizer's from 5 different countries in only 8 years.

It will be very interesting to see the outcome of the new hybrids, as they grow bigger.

The first plant of Yucca 'Bright Edge' x filamentosa (BMJ #1813), did bloom in the garden of Steen Stjerne, Samsø, Denmark in 2008. And in 2009 he had flowers in Yucca 'Bright Edge' x glauca BMJ #1811.
