Yucca hybrids,
made by Benny M. Jensen
in the summer of 2009.

Also in the summer of 2009, did I make new cross pollination's Yuccas. I did pollinate of about 150 flowers, both with pollen from my own plants and with pollen from friends from around the world.

I wish to send my special thanks to: Tim Behan (U.S.A.) , Steen Stjerne (DK), Christian (A), Alexander Heim (D), Demeter Janakidizs (HU) and Wolfgang Metorn (D), whom all did send me pollen for the experiments, I am very happy for their support and help in this project. I were also so fortunate that I again this year were allowed to pollinate and collect pollen from a special trunk forming Yucca which were growing in a garden in a village close by our home, Many thanks to Inger and Bendt. This Yucca is not 100 % identified yet, but it could be the plant known as Yucca gloriosa [var. robusta].

This year the weather conditions were not very good, so the number of fruits, which I were able to get good seeds from, were not so high this year as normal. Of the about 150 pollination's in my own garden, and on the plant the private garden in the village close by, did I only get 23 fruits with good seeds and a total of  8 new Yucca hybrids + 2 different new F:2 hybrids (pollinated with it's own pollen).

I have made an interesting observation, the F:2 crossings (pollinated with it's own pollen) did have a lot more white seeds or many empty black seeds, than those from cross pollination's.

Below you can see which pollination's I were able to collect seeds of in 2009:

I really look forward to sow the seeds in march 2010, and to follow the seedlings grow to mature plants, during the following 5-10 years.

Plants from the above pollination's will not be available until in the summer of 2016 at the earliest! At the time of writing, I do not plan to offer seeds of the above hybrids!
For plants of other hybrids please look at the list in the "Web shop".
